With the new generation technologies available, there are a lot of different storage devices out there. But nothing says data storage like the great solution that is LTO 5 Tapes. This type of storage media is one that can store a massive 1.5 TB of pure data. The size of the LTO tapes, particularly the 5th generation is rather small but the data storage capacity is very high for devices within this same class.
LTO Ultrium 5 Tape
Unlike the predecessors of the LTO Ultrium 5 Tape which not only features compression, WORM and encryption capabilities, the LTO 5 includes partition capabilities along with the three capabilities mentioned. This partition capability makes the storing more organized because the storage capacity is divided into partitions that can be considered as different disks. The division of storage gives a user the ability to separate the OS and programs with the files of that user. The separation also includes the log files being away from other files. Another advantage of the partition capability is the ability for a user to isolate particular files for protection and enhanced security from other users. Also, the partitions can make the computer to improve in performance because of the smaller files that are easily managed by the system. And lastly, the partition capability makes the computer to have multiple boot setups which allows users to operate more than one OS on one computer.
LTO 5 Tape
Though the predecessor of the LTO 5 is already great in itself, the makers of the LTO technology still managed to up the antics of their release of the LTO 5. A single LTO 5 Tape can store 3.0 TB of file when it is compressed at a ratio of 2:1. On its release on the 2nd quarter of 2010, the makers of the LTO 5 made the maximum speed of file transfer to 140 MB/s which are faster than the LTO 4 with 120 MB/s. Also they have made the linear density of the LTO 5 to 15142 bits/mm from the 13250 bits/mm of the LTO 4. Really, the LTO 5 makes really big improvements with its predecessors which make it a very good device for large data storage.
