The Cube, desktop 3D printer for your home

After my recent blog post about the possibility of printing a house, we’ve had a kind reply from an expert in this field. Brunel University London’s Dr P Smith is one of the world’s leading experts in the exciting sphere of 3D printing.

Are we a step closer to home 3D printing?

Earlier this year saw the launch of a very cool new 3D printer from Additive Manufacturing pioneers Freedom Of Creation and stereolithography gurus 3D systems. The company’s synonymous with all things additive have launched their new desktop 3D printer, the Cube. Along with a Cloud Printing bureaux service, a Hubs network of Cube owners, Cubify online products to browse download and print, and some new Apps. Impressive stuff!!

Costing less than $2000, the printer extrudes a polymer filament and can make objects up to 5 square inches. Could this be the start of the home ‘maker’ revolution?

  1. I like how the cost of 3D printers has decreased so dramatically…it’s only a matter of time before everyone has one!

    • Hi James, 3D printing is a fantastic development and is coming on so quickly it’s very exciting. You’re right, it won’t be long before everyone will have one and websites like Cartridge Save or iClickInk won’t just be selling things like printer toner cartridges, printer ribbons, ink cartridges etc – we’ll all be selling bonding agents as well!
